Every position with Horizon Charters requires that you are friendly and courteous and have good social skills. We also recommend that you have some boating experience and that you are not prone to motion sickness. You must be scuba certified or actively taking a scuba certification course within one month of hire as you will better understand and relate to our clients. You will also be able to scuba & freedive all of the amazing destinations that we travel!
Below are brief descriptions for the positions that you may apply and the level of experience required. These are not typical 9-5 positions and you will be required to work weekends and holidays. You will also be at sea for several days or weeks at a time.
We are accepting applications at this time for:
Chef
Formal cooking and large quantity provisioning experience required. Preparation of 3 meals a day and hors d' oeuvres for 20-40 people.
You are front and center and must be able to work while maintaining cordial presence with clients. MV Horizon's cook space is not hidden from view and must be kept in complete order at all times.
Scuba certification is not required, nor is marine biology background but both are a plus when working aboard MV Horizon as they will add to your experience.
TWIC card is required.
Steward
Assist the cook in the preparation of all meals, maintain the cleanliness of the galley and dining area. Cooking experience recommended.
Additional duties: deck watch shifts, accommodation space maintenance
Scuba certification is not required, nor is marine biology background but both are a plus when working aboard MV Horizon as they will add to your experience.
First Responder training is not essential but preferable. TWIC card required.
Deck Crew
Current CPR/First Aid and STCW-95 Certificate required. Dive certification also a requirement as this is essential to understand the needs of our clients. We also would like to hire those that have a marine biology background as it adds to the clients overall learning experience when surrounded by those with knowledge.
Customer service and safety, vessel cleanliness, vessel maintenance and day to day vessel operations. Small boat handling experience a plus. Previous boating experience not a requirement.
Divemaster
Same qualifications as deck crew plus divemaster certification and insurance. Divemasters perform same duties as deck crew plus overseeing dive site operations.
We also would like to hire those that have a marine biology background as it adds to the clients overall learning experience when surrounded by those with knowledge.
TWIC Card is required.
Mate
Minimum of 100-ton Mate's license / Near Coastal with STCW-95 endorsement and TWIC card required. Current CPR/First Aid Training and Certificate along with DAN Oxygen Provider Certificate. Scuba certification required.
Assist the Captain with the navigation of the vessel. Work in conjunction with captain to ensure customer and vessel safety. Assist in all other areas concerning customer service. Ability to organize and maintain ships logs, organize and work well with all crew as per direction of Master.
Basic diesel mechanics, electrical and plumbing experience required. Vessel maintenance during down time.

Master
Minimum of 100-ton master's license / Near Coastal required with STCW-95 endorsement and TWIC card. Minimum of CPR/First Aid Training and Certificate along with Dan Oxygen Provider Certificate. Scuba certification required.
Oversees all areas of service and safety. Assists in all areas as needed. Local knowledge of all areas navigated and dived. General knowledge of all shipboard systems including: 12-24v dc systems, 208v 3-phase system, high pressure air, plumbing, diesel mechanics, fiberglass, woodworking and vessel coatings is required. Vessel maintenance during down time.
The ability to organize and maintain all crew, working well under pressure and acting as cruise director during all voyages. You will maintain ships logs, VSP and crew scheduling while working with shoreside staff to ensure vessel is properly staffed.
Marine biology background is essential as you will be looked upon by clients and crew for seagoing and biological knowledge.
