Horizon Destination : Guadalupe Island (Isla Guadalupe)

caponorteGuadalupe Island...beautiful...remote...electric...one of the eastern Pacific's top 4 big animal destinations!

Guadalupe is among the most exciting and virgin dive adventure destinations in the world! Located 210 miles south of San Diego and 150 miles west of the Baja peninsula, Guadalupe is remote. Fewer than 50 divers are estimated to scuba dive this island each year!

We offer two distinct itineraries to Isla Guadalupe, SCUBA and Great White Shark Dives. Our SCUBA Adventures will take you to this amazing place in early summer. While our SHARK Adventures focus on mid to late summer, during the time when the sharks migrate into Guadalupe's surrounding water in the greatest numbers.

GWSScuba divers typically encounter vast schools of jack mackerel, leopard grouper and a plethora of other temperate water species! Yellowfin tuna and wahoo are seen here as are Guadalupe cardinalfish, Cortez chub, Scythe-marked butterflyfish, swallow-tailed damselfish, Clarion angelfish and very charismatic red-tailed triggerfish!

Large animal encounters are at a premium, and are guaranteed at almost every dive site. Guadalupe fur seals, California sea lions and green sea turtles keep it lively. Encounters with northern elephant seals and Pacific bottlenose dolphin are not out of the ordinary!

There is also a population of Cuvier's beaked whales that frequent Bahia Norte, and with a little luck we may have a chance in water encounter with these very shy whales.

cuvierGuadalupe is a favorite because of its unique remoteness and beauty. It is untouched and wild! The island is surrounded by very deep water (300-3000 feet!). Consequently, the water is usually very clear, abundant with pelagic life and the temperature from May - September is typically 65-72 degrees Fahrenheit. Water visibility is typically 100 feet or greater!

This destination requires an upper intermediate to advanced diver skill level. If you're looking for a destination that offers the possibility of big animals with and easy departure from San Diego, California, Guadalupe Island is your destination!
