Captain William Wilkerson Jr. and Captain Peyton Freeman — who has been running the Malihini for the past two seasons — have spent decades learning these waters. Every current, every kelp bed, every productive stretch from Point Loma to the Coronado Islands. When you step aboard the Malihini, you're not hoping for a good day. You're fishing with captains who know exactly where to go.
What you're fishing for:
Spring, summer, and fall — Yellowtail, White Sea Bass, Calico Bass, Barracuda, and Bonito.
Winter — Sand Bass, Rock Cod, and over 50 species of bottom fish.
Year-round — Halibut, Rockfish, Sculpin, and whatever else decides to show up.
The boat:
80 feet. 30 anglers maximum. Full electronics. Complete galley. RSW refrigeration to keep your catch cold and fresh from the moment it hits the deck. Rod and reel rentals available. Food and beverages for purchase aboard.
The trip:
We fish 7 to 30 miles out — local kelp beds, offshore structure, and the legendary Coronado Islands when the bite calls for it. Long enough to get into the fish. Back at the dock before the day is done.
